In this article the author examines the activities and aims of the a terror group that has vowed to attack Islamic parts of North Africa. The terrorist organization Al Qaeda in the Maghreb and its antecedents in the region are described. The author discusses factors that led to an alliance between Qaeda and an extremist North African separatist group.
