Este libro aporta luz a un fenómeno poco conocido como el proceso final de la esclavitud en Marruecos, en tiempos del colonialismo europeo, para desentrañar las raíces contemporáneas del servilismo y los estereotipos sobre la negritud en el mundo árabe. A diferencia de otros análisis generalistas, esta investigación pone la lupa sobre la praxis del servilismo a partir de un estudio de caso, centrado en la ciudad de Tetuán. Hasta bien entrado el siglo XX llegaron a la ciudad mujeres compradas para nutrir el mercado de trabajo doméstico y devenir también un signo de distinción social de las clases pudientes. Este caso es paradigmático para reconstruir las relaciones entre amos y domésticas de origen esclavo, desde la dimensión económica, familiar y simbólica, poniendo nombre y rostro a las personas subalternas para rescatarlas del olvido. |
