"The Islamic Movement in Israel was officially established in the 1970s, though its origins can be traced back to even before the creation of Israel itself after World War II. Starting as a small grassroots organization that focused on strengthening the faith of Muslim residents, it grew to become a sociopolitical movement that has been able to claim a few seats in the Israeli parliament and that focuses on the protection of Palestinian people, land, and religious sites in Israel and occupied East Jerusalem. Rosmer traces the history of the movement and how its identity and activities developed due to the limitations imposed on Palestinian citizens by the Israeli state and society, but also due to the opportunities these same factors have provided"-- Provided by publisher.
