Slaves of Algiers refers to the Irish who were enslaved in the Casbah after the Sack of Baltimore in the 1600's who chose not to return to Ireland. In many ways, Kathleen herself considers herself captive by a country which is not her own. Kathleen loves North Africa as if it was her own. Algerian Suns and Slaves of Algiers are companions and sequential and follow her life from 2005 to 2014
